Goldie Browning, 92,
of Huntington, widow of Avery Crosby Browning, died Thursday May 16, 2013,
at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday May
18, 2013 at Chapman’s Mortuary with Dr. Ed Bowen officiating. Burial will be
in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Goldie was born April 9, 1921 in
Branchland, WV, a daughter of the late Thomas and Clara Davis Clay. In
addition to her husband and parents other precious family members that have
preceded her in death were, a son, Larry Browning; five sisters, Essie
Parsons, Pansy Perry, Edna McNeely, Lola Clark, and Mae Blankenship; and
three brothers, Ancel Clay, Marshall Clay, and Thomas Clay. She was a
retired cook having worked at the Huntington Women’s Club, and a Baptist by
faith. Survivors include three daughters, Juanita Ellington, Arlene Fielder,
and Darlene Varney and husband, Stewart Varney, all of Huntington; a son and
daughter-in-law, Jerry and Alice Browning of Huntington; a sister, Hollena
McComas of Branchland, WV; a brother, Woodrow Clay also of Branchland; eight
grandchildren, Angela Halfhill, Amy Browning, Ginny Morgan, Christopher
Varney, Melinda Varney, Lisa Langley, Jeffrey Torres, and Lori Gogol; 13
great grandchildren, Amanda and Alexa Langley. Keith and Megan Gogol, Tanner
McMillen, Cassidy Sweeney, Mannie Torres, Avery and Ethan Morgan, Mackenzie
Varney, Nathan Jones, Kayla Ward, and Jaylon Halfhill; and one great great
grandson, Owen Gogol. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM
Friday at Chapman’s Mortuary.
