James Lee
Mitchell
(February 17, 1934 - January 21, 2014)
James Lee Mitchell, 79, of Huntington, went
home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from the
Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington. He was born February 17,
1934, in Mount Gay, Logan, WV, a son of the late Samuel Albert and Eunice
Farley Mitchell. Jim was a U.S. Army Veteran, a retired architect with the
State of West Virginia, and was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. He
retired from the state board of health (OHFLAC) as Staff Architect and
Program Administrator. James was a 1959 graduate of Marshall College, and
developed a love for architecture from the guidance of William R. Frampton,
who taught and mentored and encouraged him to sit for his licensing exam. He
practiced with several firms in Huntington, and Kentucky. In his earlier
years he was involved with youth sports in this area having served on youth
league boards as well as coaching. Survivors include a daughter and
son-in-law, Maria E. and Shaun Sizemore of Harleysville, PA; three sons and
daughters-in-law, James A. and Pam Mitchell of Barboursville, John M. and
Kelley Mitchell of Gainesville, GA, and Phillip L. and Kim Mitchell of
Proctorville, OH; a brother, Samuel Eugene Mitchell of Hurricane, WV; 17
grandchildren; the mother of his children, Nancy Ellen Mitchell; and two
nieces, Rosemary Watters of Hurricane, and Carolyn Fellows of Atlanta, GA.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, January 25, 2014 at
Fifth Avenue Baptist Church in the chapel with Dr. Allen Reasons and Rev.
Hubert Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park,
Huntington. Donations would be appreciated for the youth ministries at Fifth
Ave. Baptist Church or Lewis memorial Baptist Church. Friends may visit the
family, Saturday, after 12:30 pm at the church.
