Obituary

Virginia J Moore
(June 29, 1917 - April 25, 2007)

Virginia J. Moore, (Ms. Ginny) closed her eyes to rest on April 25, 2007. Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Tuesday at Sixteenth St. Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. She was born June 29, 1917 in Holden, WV, to the late James R. and Clara Spraggins Jeffreys. She was a 30’s graduate of Douglas High School. She met and married Henry Moore and from that union a son Jones Jeffreys Moore. Virginia worked many years at St. Mary’s Hospital until she was led to the needs of the community children. “Ms. Ginny” as the children in the community called her loved the kids and her work at Scott Community Center. It was a place where kids could be kids with everything from Christmas plays, to wrapping the maypole, to the best baseball games ever played. There was nothing she didn’t do with the kids at the center, where she retired after 25 years. She also served as a faithful member of Sixteenth St. Baptist Church where she worked and served the Lord. She was the mother of the church. She also was the director of the Women’s Gospel Chorus for 25 years. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Vivian, Ethel, and Irma; and one grandson Preston “P.J.” Moore. She leave to cherish and share her memories, one son, J.J. Moore; two granddaughters Rhonda Lynn Moore-Miller (Bruce) and Leslie Lynnette Moore; and one grandson, Bryan Lee Moore Sr.; a niece Priscilla Williams (Albert), 9 great grandchildren, Hiram Moore, Brian Moore II, Michelle Johnson, Tyler Moore, Jarred Moore, Jaleesa Moore, Joseph Moore-Crawford, Mason Moore, and Morgan Hiveley; and a host of friends. Calling hours will be from 11am until the time of service at the church. The care and services of Ms. Ginny are under the direction of Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington.
