Obituary
Vernell Lee Washington
Vernell Lee Washington, 79 of Huntington, departed
this life Monday, July 9, 2007, in the comfort of his home. He was born in
Ironton, Ohio on February 9, 1928 to the late Ethel Thomas Washington and
James Williams both of Ironton, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his
daughter Vernella Jones. Vernell graduated from Douglas High School, class
of 1945. Then he enlisted in the United States Army on June 5, 1946, where
he served as a Carpenter General in the 3308th Heavy Automotive
Maintenance Company, 618th Heavy Automotive Maintenance Battalion. After
his honorable discharge he worked tirelessly to support his family at Inco
Alloy Nickel Plant where he retired as a steelworker in 1983. Survivors
include his brother; Robert Franklin Washington of Huntington; his four
daughters, Margaret Lee Adkins (Charles) of Grand Rapids, MI, Tanda Scott
of Columbus, OH, Darlene Kay Newman of Huntington, Natelia Lavonne
Godfrey (Neville) of Grand Rapids MI; two sons, Vernell Washington II and
David Washington both of Columbus, OH, their mother Margaret Rogers of
Columbus, OH; James Hurst, Columbus, OH; Grandchildren, James, Danielle,
Stephanye, Stephan, Felecia, George, Kenneth, Timothy, Nicole, Tajuan,
Vernell, Crystal, Natori, David Jameka; 33 great grandchildren, two very
special friends Wesley Tubbs and Jerry Dotson and a host of other
relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00pm Friday
July 13, 2007 at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home with Rev. Reginald Hill
Officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until service time at the
funeral home. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
