Walter George Davis
(May 14, 1935 - July 2, 2008)



 Walter George Davis, 73, of Huntington, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at his residence. He was born May 14, 1935 in Huntington, a son of the late Coleman H. Davis Sr. and Mildred Talley Davis. He had attended West Virginia State College and was a graduate of Marshall University, where he was active in football from 1954 to 1958. He was inducted into the Black Legends of Marshall University in 2001 for being the first African American to play football for Marshall. He had worked for the city of Huntington as a police officer, and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Davis and his brother, Coleman H. Davis Jr. Walter is survived by one daughter, Deanna Watkins (Tyrone) of Charlotte, NC; and four grandchildren; Talisha, Brittany, Arinne, and Shannon. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, July 11, 2008 at Spring Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Roy E. Terry officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:45 am.
