Wilbur W. Jenkins
Wilbur Wayne ‘Waynie’ Jenkins was born October 9, 1964 in Charleston, WV to the parents of the both late Mr. Willie Jenkins, Sr. and Elizabeth Ann Easley Jenkins, lifelong residents of Charleston and South Charleston, WV. Wilbur passed away at the age of 48 years old on September 21, 2013 at his home in Huntington, WV. He is survived by his companion Ms. Deborah Crabtree, Catlettsburg, KY; son, Kevin Linger, Fort Wayne, IN; fraternal twin brother, Willie Jenkins, Jr. of Charlotte NC (wife Priscilla); sisters: Wilma Gaines Holder, Fort Wayne IN (husband James); Cynthia Grace, Mesa, AZ (husband Robert); the late Peggy Ann Edwards, Mesa, AZ formerly of Cincinnati, OH (ex-husband Richard “Dinky” Edwards, II); nephews: Richard Edwards III, Cincinnati, OH; Donovan Edwards, Austintown, PA (wife Nicole); Jason Edwards, Cross Lanes, WV; Joshua Gaines, Alexandria, VA; Cedreco Hannah, Cedrick Hannah, Lorenzo Holder all from Fort Wayne, IN; Allen Reese Jenkins, Charlotte, NC; nieces: LaToya Gaines (husband Joey), Ebony Carter (husband Jack), LaKeesha Burnette, LaShonda Fritz, Daysha Burnette, Shadricka Burnette, all from Fort Wayne, IN; and Danielle Grace, Auburn, MI. Wilbur attended Edison Elementary, South Charleston Jr. High and graduated from South Charleston High School in South Charleston, WV in 1982. He went on to graduate from West Virginia State College in Institute WV where he majored in Communications. During his youth he was active in Biddy League football, junior high, high school and AAU basketball, and Biddy League baseball. Wilbur has been involved in the sports community for more than 30 years. He was an Associated Press sports writer, Riverside High School girls’ basketball coach, coach and umpire for baseball and softball leagues including umpiring the Little League Softball World Series, worked at the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournaments, and state high school basketball tournaments performing stats. He also worked several years in education at Charleston area schools. A memorial service will be held to honor his life on Saturday, September 28, 2013 starting at 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm at South Charleston Community Center, 601 Jefferson Road, South Charleston, WV. Arrangements are being handled by Ferrell Chamber Funeral Home in Huntington, WV.
