Obituary
CHARLES J. "CHARLIE" LATTIN, 80,
passed away Friday, February 20, 2015, with his children at his side.
Charlie enlisted in the Air Force after graduating from Huntington High
School, spending the majority of his service time in the Aluetian Islands
during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he and his wife Evelyn
moved to South Carolina where he managed several Howard Johnson restaurants
before opening his own restaurant, The Lattin Quarter. They returned to West
Virginia and he worked for 30 years at BASF and obtained his electrician
journeyman license. He also manned the Huntington flood wall during flood
threats. Charlie served in leadership positions for both the American Legion
and Disabled American Veterans as well as OCAW union. After his wife
Evelyn's death, he took over many care-giver duties for his father-in-law
Virgil Collins. In retirement years, he volunteered for the VA driving
veterans for medical treatment and was awarded Volunteer of the Year. Also
in retirement, he and his second wife, Marianne enjoyed travel, especially
many trips with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time
with his special nephew, Rick Collins and was an avid follower of current
events. Preceded in death by parents, Charles Lattin Sr. and Anna Browning
Lattin, wives Evelyn Collins Lattin and Marianne Graves Lattin, and brother
George "Bob" Lattin. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Steve (Francie)
Lattin and grandchildren, Adam and Becca; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn
(Brett) Gallatin, grandchildren, Brittney and Christine and great-grandson,
Travis. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 23 at Heck
Funeral Home, Milton. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday
at the funeral home with Pastor Don Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow
in Forest Memorial Park, Milton.
