William G. "Bill" Lunsford

William G. "Bill" Lunsford, 73, died peacefully in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington on Monday evening surrounded by family. He was loved and respected by many.  He was born May 26, 1943 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Claude and Agnes Courts Lunsford.  He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Christina Ann Lunsford and brother, Larry Lunsford.  Bill served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. He retired from the Huntington Police Department after 27 years of service and continued serving as a polygraph examiner for the last 43 years.  He graduated from Marshall University with a degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement with a minor in Psychology.  As a member of the American Legion Post 139 Milton for 50 plus years, Bill served as Commander for two terms and enjoyed servicing his local community in the honor guard.  He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Connie L. Shafer Lunsford; daughter, Cathy Lunsford Cooper (Doug) and two grandchildren, Catherine "Alex" Cooper, and William Cooper.  Bill’s visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 13 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 14 at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Forest Memorial Park, Milton.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington or Wounded Warrior Project.
