Obituary
REV. JOHN R. GRANDSTAFF
Rev. John Rodefer Grandstaff, 78 of Huntington, WV, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Rose Terrace Nursing Home, Culloden, WV. John was born in Elm Grove, WV on April 10, 1934 to John Edison and Hattie (Brock) Grandstaff, who preceded him in death along with brothers, Jimmy and Jack. He is survived by one sister, Shirley Evans and five brothers, Jerry (Holly), Dick (EJ), Bud (Sandy), Chuck, David (Melinda) Grandstaff. John graduated from Dunbar High School, attended Morris Harvey College in Charleston, WV and graduated from West Virginia State College in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science Education. John was a teacher and coach at Wahama High School in Mason, WV and Magnolia High School in New Martinsville, WV. He graduated from the Methodist Theological School in 1968 with a Master of Divinity Degree. He served as a United Methodist minister in Ohio and West Virginia until his retirement in 1996 with a special appointment as Hospital Administrator of Wetzel County Hospital. On November 2, 1956 John married Betsy Ann King at Dunbar EUB Church in Dunbar, WV. John is survived by his wife, Betsy and daughters, Katherine Grandstaff McComas, Terry Lee Hutchison (Greg) and Pamela Kay Grandstaff; grandchildren, Ella McComas Kuratomi (Nate), Michael Stewart Hutchison and Colin Lee Hutchison; great-grandson, Jackson Charles Kuratomi. The family is honoring John’s wishes not to have a service and is being assisted by Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John’s honor to WV Conference Treasurer at P.O. Box 2469 Charleston, WV 25329 The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has a mission to work globally to alleviate human suffering. Donations in John’s honor may also be made to your local food bank. A generous man will himself be blessed for he shares his food with the poor. ( Proverbs 22:9) Johns family would like to thank Dr. Scott Mitchell, Linda Moul, Amy Fields, Don Perdue, Matt Enz and the staff of Rose Terrace Nursing Home and Lighthouse Unit for the loving care and support.
