JAMES ROY DOUGLAS
(September 17, 1929 - November 28, 2014)



James Roy “Jimmy” Douglas, 85 of Huntington, W.Va. went home to be with his Lord on Friday, November 28, 2014 in Cabell Healthcare Center, Culloden, W.Va. He was born September 17, 1929 in Huntington, W.Va. the son of the late, Benjamin Douglas and Goldie Smith Douglas Setliff.  In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by Rose Maxine Estep and Kathleen Hill. He was a graduate of Huntington East High School, Marshall University receiving his B.A. and M.A. Degrees; a U.S. Air Force Korean War Veteran stationed in England, a lifelong educator serving as a Teacher, Counselor, Principal, Assistant Superintendent for Putnam County Schools and Professor in the College of Education at Marshall University. He was a lifelong member of the Staunton Street Apostolic Church, which later became Apostolic Life Cathedral serving along side of his dear friend and former Pastor, Greene Kitchen where together they co-authored a book, Power In The Sunday School.  He supported the work of God teaching at church, supporting youth camps and coordinating food drives. Out of all of his life accomplishments, his primary focus was Faith, Family and Education. He is survived by his loving wife, Ada Lynn Douglas of Culloden, W.Va.; one daughter, Andrea Carol Ross (Shawn) of Barboursville, W.Va; two sons, Brian Scott Douglas (Andrea) of Chesapeake, OH. and James Roy Douglas, II. (Carolyn) of Willow Spring, NC; two sisters, Emogene Savage and Dorothy Jarvis and one brother, Charles Douglas of Ona, W.Va and one half brother, Roger Setliff; seven grandchildren, James Roy “Jay” Douglas, III (Jenny), Kristen Taylor Douglas, Caleb Scott Douglas (Brittany), Joshua Michael Douglas, Brian Shane Douglas, Hannah Rae Brown and Corey Douglas Ross; one great-grandchild, Lincoln Marshall Douglas. Funeral services honoring his life will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Apostolic Life Cathedral, Huntington, W.Va.  The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM at the church on Tuesday. Burial will follow at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the Milton Cemetery, Milton, W.Va. with military graveside honors.  The family wishes to thank the staff of Cabell Healthcare for the great care and support. While flowers are appreciated, memorial donations may also be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, Barboursville, W.Va. is caring for the family.
