V.C. Clay Johnson, 88 of Huntington, W.Va. passed away, Friday, June 24, 2016. He was born March 28, 1928 in Jackson County, W.Va. He was the widower of Etta Mae Starcher Johnson. He is survived by one son, Larry Wayne Johnson (Vicki) of Barboursville, W.Va; two granddaughters, Nikki Johnson Simpkins (Jeff) and Cortney Johnson Norman (Andy); two great-grandchildren, Jackson Simpkins and Payton Simpkins. He was the son of the late, Dessie (D.I.) Johnson and Losha Hill Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Johnson, who was killed by a drunk driver at the age of 21. Also preceding him in death are eight sisters and one brother, Wilma Johnson, Vada Johnson (Densil), Vesta Johnson Fisher (Troy), Velma Johnson Bailey (Ray), Carrie Johnson Maires (Gordon), Virgie Johnson Sirbaugh, Verna Johnson Harding (Connie), Violet Johnson Harding (Don) and Ray Johnson (June) and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was a U.S. Navy Air Force Veteran where he served twice and was honorably discharged. Mr. Johnson worked 35 years with Appalachian Life Insurance Company. He started as a Debit Agent on April 28, 1952. He was promoted to staff manager in January 1957, to Home Office Manager. May 13th, 1976. He went from agent to the President in 24 years. He retired in 1987. He attended Steel Memorial United Methodist Church in Barboursville, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Henson & Kitchen Mortuary; Barboursville, W.Va. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, W.Va. with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #139 and the West Virginia Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM on Monday, June 27, 2016 at Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, Barboursville, W.Va.
