Alice Marie Washington, 52, of Dunbar, gained her wings on Sunday, July 28, 2019. Alice was a dedicated mother, a selfless friend, and a matriarch amongst her community. A kind and gentle soul who loved spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her role as "granny" and delighted in a relaxing evening playing cards. She was the Queen of our hearts. Her life was a living example of one of her favorite Bible verses, Ephesians 4:32, "And be kind and compassionate to one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ." Alice rarely met a stranger, could always make you laugh, and constantly extended her hand to others in need. Her bubbly personality and loving grace will be sorely missed by a multitude of those that knew and loved her. She was born February 24, 1967 in Williamson, WV, the daughter of Alice Mae Martin-Scott and the late James Whitfield. She was a caregiver with Hopewell Community Services. In addition to her mother, she is survived by Roger Washington of South Charleston, WV, four children; Jaqueta Whitfield of Princeton, WV, Curtis "Doug" Whitfield, Roger Washington, Jr., and Rogetta Washington, all of Charleston, WV, five sisters; Kohnee Harmon of Hope Mills, NC, Mary Jane Whitfield, Tammy Whitfield, Tonya Whitfield, and Parzella Harris, all of Huntington, WV, two brothers; Julius Whitfield of Atlanta, GA and Jerome Whitfield, Sr. of Huntington, WV, two grandsons; Ta'Vajay Smith of Princeton, WV and Antonio Copeland of Charleston, WV, as well as a host of family and friends. Home-Going services will be conducted at noon on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Encouragers Fellowship Church, 1630 Doulton Ave., Huntington, WV 25701. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington, WV. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time on Saturday at the Church. Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, 6357 E. Pea Ridge Rd., Huntington, WV 25705 is caring for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to assist with funeral expenses.
