Howard Justin Frye PhD

Howard Justin Frye, PhD, 63 of Florence, SC, formerly of Logan, WV, passed away Friday, November 26, 2022 in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV after a short illness with intrahepatic bile duct cancer. He was born February 10, 1959 in Columbus, OH. Howard was a 1977 graduate of Logan High School. He attended Marshall University and Florida State University, where he completed his doctorate degree in Art Education. He was an Elementary School teacher in Spring Hill, FL and most recently, Professor of Art Education at Frances Marion University in Florence, SC. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Harkins J. Frye and Sadako Frye; and Elza Dallas Roy, his uncle who raised him. He is survived by his aunt who raised him, Beulah Faye (Frye) Roy of Huntington, WV; brothers, Charlie Frye of Gainesville, FL, Arnold Frye of Cleveland, OH, Jerry Frye of Columbus, OH; sisters, JoAnn Frye of Gainesville, FL, Rosemary (Frye) Adams of Huntington, WV, Judy (Frye) Perry of Columbus, OH; and a host of nieces and nephews. Per his request, Howard will be cremated and a private memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, Huntington, WV is caring for the family.
