Maxine Miller Hoke

1, 1919 - October 22, 2013)
Maxine
Miller Hoke,
94, of Huntington, widow of Edgar C. Hoke,
died Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. She
was born September 1, 1919 in Huntington, the daughter of the late William
T. and Martha Carpenter Miller. She was
also preceded in death by three brothers, Leon I.
Miller, Forrest F. Miller and
Kenneth K. Miller. She was a graduate of
Huntington High School and Wiseman Business School, she attended Marshall
University. She was a retired office manager for Hunter-Chambers Camera
Shop. A life-long member of the Beverly Hills United Methodist Church and
was the oldest living member, in terms of membership, having joined the
church on December 14, 1930. She was a member of the John Wesley Sunday
School Class, a member of the Leah Circle of the United Methodist Women and
had served as circle leader. She was a Past President of the United
Methodist Women. She has served as a member of the Finance Committee, the
Trustees, the Administrative Council and served as Chairman of the Communion
Stewards for many years. She was a Lay Leader from 2001 – 2003. A member of
Pilot Club International and served four terms as President of the Pilot
Club of Huntington. She was a three time recipient of the Lucy E. Prichard
Award for service. She served as Governor of the Kentucky-Ohio-West Virginia
District of Pilot International and as Pilot Information Leader on the
International level. A member of the Woman's Club of Huntington and the
Sugarwood Ladies Golf Association. She is survived by a niece, Karen
Miller Deitz of Bouse, AZ; nephews, Gary L.
Miller and his wife Eleanore of Corrales,
NM., Roy D. Hoke II and his wife Helen of
Avon Lake, OH., Charles S. Hoke and his
wife Doris of Omaha, NE, Shirley Miller,
wife of deceased nephew Donald Miller of
Harrison, MI, several great-nieces and great-nephews and many dear friends.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2013 at Beverly Hills
United Methodist Church by the Rev. William M. Haynes Jr. Interment will
follow in Woodmere Memorial Park. Friends may call Monday, 10:00 a.m. until
service time at the church. Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary is in charge of
arrangements.
