Doris Elizabeth Haeberle
(August
18, 1918 - April 7, 2014)
Doris
Elizabeth (Downs)
Haeberle, 95, of Huntington died April 7 at the Woodlands
Retirement Community. She was born in Louisville, KY on August 18th 1918 the
daughter of Frieda Elizabeth Weigel Downs
and Earl Downs. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 70 years,
Ronald Mason Haeberle. She grew up in
Louisville KY and later in Logan WV. She attended Western Kentucky State
Teachers College in Bowling Green KY and graduated from Marshall College in
1940. After graduation she was employed in the Logan county school system.
She was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church. She was active in
the life of the church as a circle chairman and working with generations of
children and young adults over the years as Sunday School teacher, Youth
Advisor, and Cub Scout Den Mother. As a grandmother, her time with younger
children in the LOGOS intergenerational program was especially rewarding.
Her church friendships were many and they lasted a lifetime. She was an
active member of the Huntington Woman's Club, the Huntington Civic League,
the Glass Club and the Arcata Garden Club, often serving as an officer. She
served the community through volunteer work in the Huntington State Hospital
Auxiliary and was a long time volunteer at the Huntington Museum of Art
where she was a behind the scenes fixture with the Book Fair. In retirement
she and Ronald enjoyed travel by car, visiting family and friends from one
end of the country to the other and carefully documenting the trips.
Survivors include her sister Mrs. William R. (Jane) Long of Huntington and
her extended family, sons, Ronald M. Haeberle
Jr. and his wife Harriet of Huntington and Timothy
Haeberle and his wife Sue of Spring Texas; Ronald and Harriet's sons
Jeffrey M. Haeberle and his wife Amy of
Butler, Pennsylvania and their son James and daughter Abigail, and David C.

Texas and their sons Jacob and Luke, and Tim and Sue's son Hunter and
daughter Heather of Spring Texas.
