Marjorie Virginia Hollandsworth
(December 2, 1922 - February 2, 2015)



Marjorie Hollandsworth , 92 of Huntington, died on Monday, February 2, 2015 after an extended illness. Mrs. Hollandsworth came to Huntington, WV, in 1956 to marry the Rev. Royce K. McDonald, a minister at Enslow Park Presbyterian Church for 25 years. She was an active member of the church for 58 years which included being president of the Women of the Church, an Elder, and Elder Emeritus. Mrs. Hollandsworth was born and raised in Lexington, VA, graduated from James Madison University where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. She continued her sorority activities later at Marshall University and helped to build a new sorority house in the 1960s. In Lexington she was a 7th grade teacher, worked for the Red Cross, and managed a Sears Catalog store. In Huntington she worked for 8 years as a Head Start bookkeeper, and for 5 years she was a real estate agent. Marjorie’s major civic work involved being a supporting member of garden clubs. She was the 1st president of the Lexington, VA, Garden Club. She was past president of the Huntington Council of Garden Clubs and of the WV (State) Garden Club. She was on the National Garden Club board and served in many capacities from 1977 to the present. She developed a strong appreciation of environmental issues and worked in the garden clubs to promote environmental education. She was a very artistic and creative flower arranger, and won numerous awards for her flower arrangements. She studied flower show judging, become a Master Flower Show Judge, and served on the National Council of Flower Show Judges. Marjorie was an active supporter of human care and animal rescue organizations. She was a Contact volunteer and past president of the Huntington Child Conservation League, member of Habitat for Humanity, and served on the President’s Advisory Council of Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Va. Marjorie enjoyed traveling the USA, Canada, and Europe, golfing, tailoring clothes, and undertaking many duties at Enslow Park Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Hollandsworth was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Red Sisley, 2nd husband, Royce K. McDonald, and 3rd husband, James (Pop) G. Hollandsworth who passed away in 2013. She is survived by a daughter, Emma Ruth McDonald Hayes and her husband, Charles Paxon Hayes, of Monument, Co. and a son, Kel McDonald, and his wife, Janet A. McDonald, of Erie, Pa. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Ruth Paxon Wordelman, and grandson, Bryan K. McDonald. She has six great grandchildren, three nieces, and one nephew. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, at Enslow Park Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Chris Perkins. Friends may call 1:00 p.m. until service time Friday at the church. A burial service will be held at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church, Lexington, VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Enslow Park Presbyterian Church or Little Victories.
