Catherine Carter
(February 14, 1944 - September 25, 2018)



Catherine Stewart Carter, 74, of Huntington, died Tuesday, September 25, 2018. She was born on February 14, 1944 in Williamson, WV to the late Margaret Bronson Stewart and Frederick Fitzgerald Stewart. Catherine graduated from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia in 1966 with a B.A. in Economics.  Upon graduation, Catherine worked at Western Union until she found her true passion, teaching elementary school for many years.  She was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Huntington.   Catherine is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, John Marshall Carter, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Anne Carter and Margaret  (Maggie) Kushleen Carter (both of New York City); sisters, Mary Stewart McQueen (Huntington, WV), Elizabeth Stewart Grenzebach (Wilmington, NC) and her aunt Lois Walden (Maysville, KY).  She also dearly loved her nieces and nephews, Jane Jackson, Jamie McQueen, Elizabeth White, Stewart McQueen, Elaine Moran, William Moran, Sheila Carter, Madeline Carter, and Helen Carter; sisters-in-law, Mary Faith Carter, Anne Carter Moran, and Mary Lourdes Carter; brothers-in-law, Joseph F. Carter, James H. Carter, Benedict S.F. Carter, Marshall V. Carter, and Thomas M. Carter (Predeceased).   A rosary recitation and short prayer service, led by Rev. Paul Yuenger, will be held Monday, October 1st, beginning at 5:00pm at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Huntington, WV. A visitation open to the public will also be held on Monday at Our Lady of Fatima from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.   The funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, October 2nd at 10:30am, Our Lady of Fatima Church, followed by a burial at Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington. The Ladies’ Ministry at Our Lady of Fatima will host a luncheon after the burial.
