Obituary

Tennyson Hall
(January 30, 1946 - May 9, 2019)

Tennyson Hall, 73, of Ironton, Ohio went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after succumbing to a 7-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Tennyson was born in 1946 in Portsmouth, Ohio to his parents Thomas J. Hall and Jean E. Hall (Collins). Tennyson was married 53 years to Brenda L. Hall (Hanshaw) of Kitts Hill, Ohio. Tennyson graduated from Rock Hill High School, class of 1965 and served 8 years in the Ohio Army National Guard from 1967 until he received his Honorable discharge in 1975. Tennyson was a retired steelworker, retiring after 45 years of employment with AK Steel in 2012. Tennyson was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers-in-law, Perry Hanshaw, Gary Hanshaw, and Rick Hanshaw, as well as his sister-in-law Penny Hanshaw.  He is survived by his wife Brenda L. Hall of Ironton; his eldest son, Tom R. Hall of Ironton; his brothers Gene Van Horn of Kentucky and Daniel Patrick of Florida; his grandchildren Hope D. Collins of Deering Ohio, and Zachary Hall of Ironton, Ohio; and his great-grandchildren Blake and Brisen Collins of Deering, Ohio. Tennyson was a member of Sheridan Missionary Baptist Church in South Point, Ohio which he attended faithfully until just after the onset of Alzheimer’s.  He served as a teacher and a trustee and was an avid Bible student and displayed his love of his Savior by how he treated others. Tennyson was a dog-lover, and after retirement spent lots of time on the lake bass fishing or trying to get there so he could.  Up until March, 2016 Tennyson would walk 5-10 miles daily with his beloved dog, Blackie, and would often afterward take a bike ride. Earlier in life Tennyson played tennis, basketball, softball, swam and rode motocross regularly. To all friends and acquaintances Tennyson was known as ‘T.’ To those that knew him best he was known as Honey, Dad, and Papaw.  He was known as an amazing judge of character and a voice of logic and reason for his family and loved ones.  He spent a lifetime displaying an amazing work ethic, was always a rock and could always be counted on to be there when needed.  He will be sorely missed by the same people that are very joyous that his suffering is over. Funeral service will be held at 3 pm, Monday, May 13, 2019 at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, Huntington, WV. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
