Obituary
Joe Weekley Jr. 92, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, of Huntington, WV joined his wife Lois of 62 years in their Heavenly home on November 4, 2015. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 2:00pm at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rev. Jacque Parlato and Rev. Jim Weekley burial will follow at the Rome Cemetery, Rome, Ohio. Joe was born on March 26, 1923 in Huntington, WV the son of the late Joseph W. and Bertha Ward Weekley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death his wife Lois Fuller Weekley; brothers Saunders and Herschel Weekley and sisters Elsie Blake and Bonnie Hanson. Joe was a driver and salesman for the Huntington News Agency where he met his “One in A Million” Lois and they were married for 62 years. He retired from the Huntington News Agency after 55 years of service. He was also a veteran of the US Navy having served in WWII. Joe embarked on the USS Wasp CV-7 December 1940 and participated in the “Neutrality Patrol” in the North Atlantic where Army P-40’s were taken to Iceland. Twice the Wasp sailed through the Straits of Gibraltar into the Mediterranean launching English Spitfires to protect the island of Malta. While operating in the Pacific, supporting Guadalcanal the ship was hit by three Japanese torpedoes and sunk. April 1943 he embarked on the USS Prince William CVE-31 and April 1944 he embarked on the USS San Jacinto CVL-30. He was a member of American Legion Post 16 and VFW Post 1064. He is survived by his daughter Claudia Lyons; son and daughter in law Chris W. and Dawnetta Weekley; grandchildren Kristin and Phillip Hatfield, Joseph M. and Sara Weekley; two great grandchildren Jaxon and Olivia Hatfield; In law’s Howard and Valerie Fuller and Lowell Fuller and Ruth and Phillip Daniels and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 3-5 Pm Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Reger Funeral Home. The Veterans Honor Guard of American Legion Post 16 of Huntington will conduct military graveside rites.
