RUEBEN GIDEON
KIRK JR.
(March 4, 1947 - April 17, 2014)
The life of RUEBEN GIDEON KIRK JR.,
of Ona, West Virginia (March 4th, 1947- April 17th, 2014) will be celebrated
by his family, friends, and loved ones from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the
Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday,
April 22, 2014 at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton along with military rites
conducted by the American Legion Post #139, Milton, followed by the
graveside service at 3 p.m. at his family cemetery, Bill Perry Cemetery, in
Dunlow, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Nutter, and
two sons, Rueben Gideon Kirk, III, also known as "Skip" and Bobby Kirk, also
known as Robert. Rueben was a kind and gentle man, known for his work ethic,
dependability, willingness to help others, love of country, Marshall
football, dogs (Akitas-Spice, Mastiffs- Jet, and Goldendoodles - Coco and
Pepper) and his family. He honorably served in the United States Army during
the Vietnam War, earned a Bachelor's from Marshall University, and had a
fulfilling career working in the United States Postal Service. He was a
familiar face at the Huntington Post Office, Marshall games, and on the ball
fields in Ona. He loved to fish, watch movies (particularly sci-fi), and eat
homemade meals with his family. Rueben leaves behind his wife of 23 years,
Jan T. Kirk, daughter, Theresa O'Brien and son-in-law Dan, of Mentor, Ohio,
stepdaughter, Sarah Jarvis and stepson-in-law Joe, of Ona, and stepson Eric
Wilson, of Huntington, his stepfather Bob Nutter, sisters: Frankie Marcum
and Barbara Stroud (Landon, husband), brother Tommy Kirk (Dreama, wife),
brother-in-law Gregory Adkins, grandchildren Shayna and Aleena O'Brien,
Chance Kirk, Wyitt Kirk, and Cameron Jarvis; nieces Dee Meddings, Barbara
York, Barbara Litton, Yvonne Murry, Natalie Rowe, Caitlyn Adkins,
great-niece Lilly Rowe, nephews John Riley, Eric, John, David, Clarence, &
Paris Stroud, Shayne Kirk, Billy Kirk, and other family, friends, and his
four-legged girls, Coco and Pepper. For those coming to this celebration of
life, please consider wearing your favorite Marshall gear.
