James Cooper Jr.
(September 12, 1924 - February 12, 2015)



James "Brud" Cooper Jr., 90, of the left fork of Barker's Ridge, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 12, 2015 at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born September 12, 1924 to the late Virgie and James Cooper. He was a World War II Combat Veteran with the United States Army. He served as a Technical Sergeant in the European Theater of Operations, Company C, 406th Infantry Regiment, 102nd Division. James supervised a 40 man rifle platoon in attacking and holding enemy positions. He was responsible for tactical employment, control and coordination of the platoon in combat operations. James retired from INCO where he worked in the strip mill. After retiring, he continued working on the family homeplace. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Freda Mae Blake (Denny), Lucille Courts (Herbert), and Vivian Chapman (Junior), a brother, Denzel Knapp, a son, Gary Lee Cooper, a daughter, Sandra Renee Jackson, and a grandson, Billy James Gregory Jordan. He is survived by his oldest sister, Erma Blake (Russell) of Glenwood, WV, a brother, Ivan Knapp of Milton, WV, two daughters, Mona Lisa Jordan (Bobby) of Ona, WV and Joy Miller (Bert) of Dayton, OH, 6 grandchildren, Angie Jackson Dornon, David Jackson, Molly Cooper May, Toby Cooper Petty, Kattie Coleman Walters, Josh Williamson, 13 great grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mona and Joy would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center for their care and kindness and also to Pastor Jeff Lycans for ministering to their daddy regularly. Visitation with family will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 14th at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by Pastor Paul Meadows. Burial will follow at Forest Memorial Park, Milton.
