Thurman Eugene "Gene" Clagg
(February 7, 1919 - October 25, 2017)



Thurman Eugene "Gene" Clagg, 98, of Ona, WV, went home to meet his Lord and Savior on October 25, 2017. He was born February 7, 1919, to Thomas and Malitty May Clagg of Milton. He was preceded in death by brothers: Luther Hatfield, child Harry Clagg, and Harold Clagg; sisters: Dorothy Templeton, Dollie Rosia, Nellie Ross, Maxine Zirkle, and Anna Kolarik. Mr. Clagg is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Agnes Irene Diehl Clagg; four children: James (Ellen) Clagg of Milton, Reba (Bill) Anderson of Fayette, AL; Kenneth (Paula) Clagg of Mansfield, OH, and Rodney (Susan) Clagg of Bellville, OH; nine grandchildren, Sally Bowen, John Clagg, Beth Clagg, Jeffrey Anderson, Laura Hurst, Greg Clagg, Michelle Luckey, Meghan Oyster, and Sarah Reber; three step grandchildren: Teresa Merry, Sandy Campbell, and Terry McComas; seventeen great grandchildren and another due in February; and three step great grandchildren. Mr. Clagg was a member of Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church, Gideon’s International, and highly decorated Army veteran of World War II. He was an avid hunter, gardener, and bee keeper. He was employed as shift supervisor at Houdaille Industry in Huntington and plant manager at Taylor Metal in Mansfield, OH. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. The funeral will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church, Ona, WV, by Pastor Greg Lunsford. Graveside services with Military honor guard will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville. Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class, employees of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Huntington, and employees of Midland Meadows Senior Living, Ona.
