Calvin Ted Roe
(May 11, 1924 - July 14, 2011)

Calvin Ted Roe, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went home to join his Lord Thursday, July 14, 2011. He was born in Wayne County, WV, on May 11, 1924, the son of the late Clifford Lisle and Cora Mae Lockhart Roe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Carlos Glenn, Azel W. Shot (Dorma Lee Graham), sisters Geraldine (Hiram) Jackson, Patricia L. (Ronnie) Miller, brothers-in-law, Bobby Cook, Albert W. Ramey, Denvil Eagle, John Rowsey and Don Kyle. Also preceding him in death were daughter-in-law Terry Chadwick Roe, special nieces Barbara Sue Roe Dolin, Debbie Eagle Fry, Brenda Kay Lester Lucas and nephew Hiram Ronald Jackson. Survivors include his wife of fifty three years, Iris Jean Bias Roe, son Gregory Scott Roe and his fiancé, Teresa Barbour Adkins, son Roger Ellis and his wife Melinda Kay Conrad Roe and daughter Diana Lynn and her husband Robert Michael Bowen, granddaughter Angela Aaron Crisel (Joey) Trader, their daughter Hallie Morgan and son Jonas Luc, grandson Robert Michael (Amanda Nicole Fulks) Bowen II and their son Benjamen Jacen, grandson Jonathon David (Christina Faith Ball) Roe and their daughter Abigail Faith, granddaughter Sabrina Brandelle Bowen (Jeffrey Allen) Salmons and their son, Jayson Allen, and daughter, Evelyn Grace. Also surviving are six sisters, Hope Ramey Kyle, Jacqeline (Basil) Asbury, Anna Lee Eagle, Glenna Cook, Charlotte Rowsey and Linda (Ken) Martucci, brothers-in-law, William C. Bias, Douglas F. Bias, B. Wayne (Barbara) Bias, sister-in-law Flo Thompson and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Ted joined the Civilian Conservation Corps as a teenager, learning stone work while helping to build facilities throughout West Virginia including those at Bluebend. He was a US Army Veteran, having served in the European/African/Middle Eastern Theaters during World War II. He retired as a bricklayer from Connors Steel after thirty years and eight months of service. A member of Camp Creek Freewill Baptist Church for thirty two years, his life was a testimony to his faith in God. A quiet, humble man, all who took time to know him could see his great love for the Lord and for his family. He was a lifelong farmer and liked nothing better than working his farm and tending his livestock. An avid gardener, he was known for the many beautiful roses he started from slips for friends and family. This season, he was growing a vegetable garden along with the next three generations of his family. He was mischievous and enjoyed joking and story-telling with those close to him. Children loved him almost as much as he loved them and they gravitated to him wherever he was. He was greatly loved and respected by all who knew him. Words cannot express how sorely he will be missed. His sons, son-in-law, grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011 at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Brother Willis Mills and Brother Cothea Workman. Burial will be in Bowen Cemetery, Huntington, WV. Donations to Hospice of Huntington may be made in his memory.
