Verna Elswick
(March 2, 1942 - April 20, 2014)


VERNA ELSWICK, 72, of Huntington, W.Va., left this world for her heavenly home on April 20, 2014. Verna was born March 2, 1942, in Oceana, WV; she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Bertha Barber Maynor who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Donald Ralph Elswick; a brother, Chilton Barber; and four sisters, Burnas Vance, Geneva Hatfield, Viola Maynor and infant sister, Mary Ann Maynor. She is survived by one son Donald David Elswick and his companion Linda Barlekamp of Findlay, Ohio; two grandchildren, Corey David and Tara Leigh Elswick, both of Huntington, and a special friend who she adored Jennifer Weigel Jones, who is like family, of Charlotte, N.C.; Those left to cherish her memory are one brother-in-law Bobby and Mary Ann Elswick of Milton, WV and two special nephews, Mike and Mark Elswick and two special nieces, Martha Cook and husband, Randy of Jesse and Peggy Baldwin and her finance Teddy Goins of Beckley; three brothers, Harold Maynor of Beckley, Joseph Ken Maynor and wife, Charlotte of Oceana and Lawrence Maynor and wife, Agnes of Davin; three special great nephews and nieces Leslie Basconi and husband T.J., Susan McNeely and husband, T.C., and Matt Cook and wife Sara; several nieces, nephews and friends including her church family at Altizer Baptist Church, of which he was an active member and Sunday school teacher for many years. The family would also like to acknowledge Albert and Janet Frankart and their children and grandchildren for the kindness shown during her illness. Mrs. Elswick was a homemaker and worked outside the home at Saint Marys hospital. Her life was a blessing to others because of her charity, faith, and love and she will always be loved and missed. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville. Entombment and services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, W.Va.
