WANDA WILSON ROSE, 82, of Huntington, WV went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 22, 2011. She was born June 27, 1929 in Huntington, WV, the daughter of the late Tracy Granville and Ruth Hager Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Rose; her stepmother, Margaret Greene Wilson; her aunt and uncle who raised her after her mother passed away, William Orin Bradley and Catherine Wilson Bradley; and a cousin, Robert Orin Bradley. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Staige) Davis and Carol (Keith) Peters of Huntington; a son, Tom (Hilary) Rose of Burlington, NC; two half brothers, Tracy Roland Wilson of Givens, WV; Troy William Wilson of Barboursville, WV; a cousin, June Bradley Bohn of Santa Monica, CA; three grandsons, Seth Thomas Rose, Trevor David Rose, and Bart Staige Davis; and her beloved cat, Lizzie. Wanda was known for her lifelong love of music. She was a gifted musician and shared her talents throughout the Huntington area. She started her music career as organist at Baptist Temple and in 1958 had the opportunity to become at organist at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. Several years later Wanda assumed the duties of musical director as well. She expanded the music program to included annual youth choir tours and special youth programs. Her greatest accomplishment was her creation and production of the Singing Christmas Tree as part of the annual Christmas celebration at FAB. It was performed for over 25 years and became a tradition for many in the community. In recent years, she has directed the bell choir at Beverly Hills United Methodist Church, and substituted for organists throughout the community. She was a charter member of Musical Arts Guild, and a member of the American Guild of Organists. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, Huntington with Dr. Allen Reasons and Rev. Hubert Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. The family will receive friends Friday from 3-6 p.m. at Beard Mortuary, Huntington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Wanda Wilson Rose Memorial Piano Education Fund at Marshall University.
