Obituary

Helen Augusta Diddle, 105, Of Huntington, WV, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Beard Mortuary with Rev. Bob Withers officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. She was born Nov. 12, 1908 in Guyandotte, Cabell County, the daughter of the late Allen Lee and Augusta Fetty Diddle. Helen was also preceded in death by five brothers, Carl F., Raymond L., J. Kenneth, Nelwyn S. and Merlyn, and their spouses and also one niece, Jean Cullum. Helen was a lifelong member of The Guyandotte United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities. She was a member of the Retired School Employees of Cabell County and was a secretary for 37 years, serving at Guyandotte Elementary and Huntington East High Schools. Helen was a resident of 306 Depot Street, Guyandotte, for more than 100 years before moving to Wyngate in Barboursville where she formed many new friendships and close ties with all of the staff and residents there. She was recognized and celebrated in downtown Huntington as the oldest living citizen of Cabell County during WV’s 150th birthday festivities. She is survived by devoted nephews and nieces; Merlyn A. (Mary) Diddle of Huntington, Nelwyn F. Diddle of Timonium, MD; Walter Lee Diddle of Georgetown, KY and Ann (Jim) Shaver of Lexington, KY. Great nephews and nieces are Tina Cossey, Lisa Hays, Dianna Cross, Julia (Dan) Kelley, Mark (Hope) Shaver, Linda Brown and Timothy Diddle. This wonderful and caring lady will be missed by all who knew her. Her frequent cards, letters and phone calls to “keep in touch” with others will be missed. We have the assurance that she is now in the presence of her Lord and all of the dear family and friends she longed to be with.
