JOE NELSON, 89, of Huntington, WV, passed on to the Lord Friday, November 1, 2013 at Saint Mary's Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Trent Eastman officiating. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV. Joe was born March 22, 1924 in Gill, WV. He graduated from Guyan Valley High School. He entered service as an Airman of the U.5. Army Air Corps serving on B-L7's as waste gunner and served with the Eighth Air Force in England from April of 1944, volunteering for a second tour, to the end of the war in Europe. Joe returned home and married the love of his life, Lovey B. Nicholas Nelson. They began their life together with Joe working for Becker Music Store. He greatly respected and loved the Becker family and felt fortunate to have known them. He later worked for the City of Huntington's Finance Department from which he retired in 1986. Joe was a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church (New Baptist Church). Joe served both Beverly Hills Baptist Church and the Guyandotte Baptist Association for many years as Treasurer. Joe has been preceded in death by his wife, Lovey B. Nicholas Nelson, parents, Sherman and Hattie Nelson, and his eleven brothers and sisters. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in law, Gregory J. and Linda Nelson of Scott Depot, WV, and James P. and Denise Nelson of Somersworth, NH; four grandsons, Patrick J. and his wife Lily Nelson of Pittsfield, ME, Joshua I and his wife Natalie Nelson of Morris Plains, NJ; Jared G. Nelson of Scott Depot, WV, Jonathan G. Nelson of Morgantown, WV; one great grandson, Joseph J. Nelson of Pittsfield, ME; and one sister and brother-in-law, Donna G. and Orman C. (John) Johnston of Milton, WV. Joe is also survived by hosts of nieces and nephews from West to East coasts. Friends may call from 6 to 8PM Friday, November 8, at the mortuary
