Donald Douglas Dowdy, 74, of Ceredo, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington. Born March 25, 1941, he was a son of the late Gilbert Washington Dowdy and Jewell Dean Brunty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry and Tommy Dowdy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Ruth Ann Dowdy; his children, Doug (Linda) Dowdy of Chesapeake, OH, Karen (Jim) Scaggs of Huntington, Melanie Miranda of Coconut Creek, FL, Lisa (Jerry) Bloxsom of Brunswick, OH and Kellie (Eric Jackson) Weidenhammer of Ona, WV; his siblings, Shelia Chapman of Huntington, Roger (Cathy) Dowdy of Huntington, Jimmy (Linda) Dowdy of Huntington, Jerry (Kellisa) Dowdy of Huntington and Norman (Rhonda) Dowdy of Barboursville, Hazel (E.J.) Maynard and Ann (Jerry) Wolford; 15 grandchildren, John, Brooke, Erick, Janel, Joey, Tyler, Kristina, Ricky, Nick, Jake, Ben, Justin, Katie, Rachel and Ali; lifelong brother and sister in Christ and best friends, Ronnie and Brenda Saul, and "adopted daughters", Lynn, Teresa and Beth. Donald was a loving, gentle, kindhearted man with a sweet soul. He cared deeply for others and always had a kind word for everyone he met. Donald’s faith in God and his devotion to his wife and family was unwavering. His comforting presence and his genuine, honest spirit will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services. Burial will follow at Watson Cemetery in Branchland.
