Elder Trellis Tyson
(August 30, 1930 - December 17, 2014)



Elder Trellis Tyson Elder Trellis E. Tyson “Paw Paw” 84, of Huntington, WV went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at The Heritage Center following an extended illness. He was born August 30, 1930 in Cass WV, the son of the late Martha Smith. His early education began in Greenbrier County WV in public schools, and he later graduated from Douglass High School in Huntington, WV. Bro. Tyson was a proud member of the Douglass High School football team that captured the coveted Football State Championship in 1947. He retired from CSX Railroad after forty faithful years as a Vat Operator, and also the City of Huntington as a truck driver. Elder Tyson was a dedicated and founding member of Christ Temple AOH Church of God under the pastorate of the late Elder Katherine Jackson. He served untiringly at Christ Temple as an elder, deacon, ward captain, and District Sunday School Superintendent. Elder Tyson was preceded in death by his wife of forty years, Elder Rosa L. Tyson, his mother, Mrs. Martha Smith, two sons, Trellis, Jr. and Timothy Tyson, one daughter, Sandra Vaughn, and son-inlaw, Kevin McClain. He is survived by his daughter Kathy McClain of Huntington, WV, two step-daughters, Janet Hensley (Larry) of Queen Creek, AZ, Minister Herma Jean Price (Richard) of Louisville, KY, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Maxine Morris of Columbus, OH, five granddaughters, Velorisia Jackson (Paul), Ilene Lewis (Eric), Juliette King, Robin Pretlow (Shawn), and Katrina Tarry (Jamahl) ; two grandsons, Warren Harris (Nena) William Harris, III, a special great grandson Christopher Jennings, five additional great grandsons, twelve great granddaughters; five great great grandsons, three great great granddaughters, three nieces, Irene Ruff Jennifer Dailey, and Leanette Owens, one nephew, Bishop John Morris, all relatives in Cass, WV and other relatives and friends. The Home Going Celebration will be Noon Monday, December 22, at Christ Temple A.O.H. Church. Entombment will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.
