Obituary

BASIL G. VICKERS, 87, of Mason, W.Va., formerly of Lincoln County, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 21, 2004, at Pleasant Valley Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Lawrence Dailey and Rev. Rondell Browning officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Hamlin. He was a veteran of World War II and retired from Lincoln County Board of Education. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mason, W.Va. He was the son of the late Oley B. Vickers and Bertha Barnett Vickers. Basil and his wife Fonda has had a family day care in their home for the past three years. Surviving is his wife of 43 years, Fonda G. Vickers; his four children, Rexel G. Vickers and wife Teri of Texas, Ransford L. Vickers and his wife Tracy of Salt Rock, W.Va., Regina K. Miller and husband Charlie of Charleston, WV., Ronda L. Dailey and husband Mark of Milton, W.Va. His seven precious grandchildren, Jessica Miller, Clint and wife Brandi Vickers, Cody Vickers, Crystal Vickers, Hannah, Heather and Lacey Dailey; two stepgrandchildren, Kaleb Birdsong and Tiffany Tucker; one great-granddaughter, Hailey Marie Soriano of Texas. He is also survived by one brother, Billy R. Vickers; three sisters Ester "Pet" Stratton, Eva Quintrell and Maxine "Peg" Meadows, all of Hamlin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends and his day care little buddies, Jaxon and Jacob; two foster sons, Darrell Stickler and wife Phyllis of Connecticut, and Greg Stickler and wife Lisa of Huntsville, Ala. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton.
