Obituary

MARY ELLEN SUTPHIN, 83, of Hurricane went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, in Heartland of Riverview, South Point, Ohio. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Richard Black officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born July 13, 1921, in Lincoln County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Oscar and Alta Bailey Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thaddaeus H. Sutphin and two brothers, Hansel and James Lewis. She worked for many years at the Peoples Company in Huntington and Rainelle, W.Va., as a supervisor. She was retired from the Department of Defense as a QAR WV Team Chief. She later retired as a secretary from Century 21 Homes and Land Real Estate. She is survived by her three daughters, Parthena Burgess of Milton, Shirley and Bob Black of Ona and Judy Sexton of Barboursville; four brothers, Donald Lewis (Delpha) of Milton, Clarence Lewis (Patty) of Hurricane, W.Va., Leeman Lewis (Mary) of Xenia, Ohio, and Bill Lewis of Kenova; two sisters, Emma Shupe of Barboursville and Betty Lewis of Savannah, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Jeff Burgess, Amy Moser, Kathy Black, Robin Riebhold, Bobby Black Jr., Kevin Black and Kevin Sexton; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Jeff Burgess, Bobby Allen Black, Leeman Lewis, Bill Lewis, Travis Sexton and Kevin Black will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Heck Funeral Home, Milton.
