Obituary

Sarah Adelia Ball, 87, longtime resident of Milton, passed away this week in Florida after a lengthy illness.  She was born in Huntington, W.Va., on the Fourth of July, 1920 to the late America and Lawrence Childers.  Preceding her in death was her husband of more than 60 years, B. Frederick Ball.  Both were known as exceptional teachers in Cabell County.  “Dee” taught school for more than 47 years and during that time, received the honor of being named “Teacher of the Year” for Cabell County.  Dee held bachelors and master’s degrees in education from Marshall University.  She was a member of the Milton Methodist Church and active in many civic and other organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Eastern Star.  She is survived by one daughter, Nancy McDowell of St. Augustine, Fla.; three granddaughters, Leslie Starzmann and Cindy Dimenstein of Atlanta, Ga., and Lauren Sonis of Dayton Beach, Fla.  She also has two great-grandsons, Alexander and Zachary Starzmann of Atlanta, Ga.  A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the Milton Methodist Church with Pastor Joseph Jarrett officiating.  Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the church on Saturday.  Donations in lieu of flowers should be directed to the Alzheimer’s Asscoiation.
