JAMES DAVID VANDEVENDER
(June 6, 1945 - March 13, 2014)

JAMES DAVID VANDEVENDER, 68 of Huntington, W.Va., passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 13, 2014, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. He was born June 6, 1945, in Parkersburg, W.Va., the son of the late Iral Vaughn and Thema Irene Dotson Vandevender; and was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ruth Marple, and one brother, Phillip Vandevender. He was a retired Chemist and Metallurgist from INCO Alloys and enjoyed cooking, gardening, photography and loved his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene Lewis Vandevender, of Huntington, W.Va.; two daughters, Gemma Scarberry of Huntington, W.Va., and Karlie Carter (Todd) of Edmond, Okla.; two step-children, Lynn Jeffords (Scott) of Davidson, N.C., and John W. Alderman III of Charleston, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, Barboursville. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Cabell Wayne Animal Shelter, 1901 James River Rd., Huntington, WV 25701.
