John Edward Stout, 87, of Barboursville, WV passed away December 13 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington. He was born May 2, 1929 in Iowa to the late John and Della Whitesell Stout. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Shriver, Roberta Stevenson and Rosemary Hansen and a brother, Stanley Stout. He is survived by his wife Ruth Stout of Barboursville; his son Kevin (Jodi) Stout and two grandchildren Jonathan and Kaitlyn all of Franklin, TN; his brother James (Sally) Stout of Albuquerque, NM; and several nieces and nephews. He served in the military as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. He was an automobile salesman early in his career and retired as manager of the Huntington Elks Club. He was a past member of the Cabell County Development Authority, a former member of the Cabell County Democratic Executive Committee, a past member of the YMCA 6th Ave. Board of Directors, and a past member of the board of directors for the Cabell-Huntington Convention and Visitors Bureau. He was a life member of the BPOE Lodge #313 and a 62-year member of the American Legion. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel, an admiral in the Cherry River Navy, and a Tennessee Squire. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, December 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Henson and Kitchen Mortuary, Huntington.
