Edith Laverne Judd

Edith LaVerne Judd, a long-time resident of both Ashland, KY and Huntington, WV, passed away September 1st, 2012 in Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown WV. She was born July 7, 1918 in Raceland, KY to Roe and Dorthea Bustetter Mitchell, who preceded her in death. She was married to Walter Kirk Judd, who died in 1988, at her parent's home in Westwood, KY on April 11, 1941. She is survived by one son, Kirk Mitchell Judd and his wife Janet Lee Judd of Morgantown, WV; two Granddaughters, Lara Jane Judd of Huntington, WV and Ashley Lynn Frost (husband Jak Frost) of McLeansville, NC; one Great Grandson, Dionte Coleman of Huntington, and two Great Daughters, Addison Grace Frost and Reese Avlyn Frost of McLeansville: a special niece, Bonnie June Holmes Campbell of Ashland, KY; and several Great Nieces and Nephews. LaVerne graduated from Ashland Senior High School in 1935 and Booth Business School in 1936. She was employed by the Ashland Board of Trade 1936-1945, Standard Ultramarine Company 1946-1951, Investor's Diversified Services, the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, and King's Daughters Hospital (Medical Records) from 1972-1983. She was a commissioned Kentucky Colonel, a long-time member of the Westmoreland Women's Club, the WV Women's Bowling Association (WV State Champion Bowling Team in 1962), St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Chairman of the Kanawha Conference of Episcopal Church Women – Diocese of WV 1959-1963, Treasurer Southwestern Convocation of WV 1958-1960, Huntington Bridge Club, Glenbrier Bridge Association, Calvary Episcopal Church, Westwood Women's ?Club, Ironton Bridge Association, Huntington Friends of the Library, Paramount Arts Center, and the YWCA of both Ashland and Huntington. She also was preceded in death by one sister Eloise Holmes and one nephew Roe Darrell Holmes of Ashland, and a brother Charles Mitchell of Dallas, TX. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, September 4, at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary in Huntington, WV. A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday, September 5, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Huntington, WV. Interment will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens. A luncheon will be held at the church starting at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
