Davis Remmele Smith

Davis Remmele Smith, 89, of Huntington, WV passed away June 22, 2013. Davis "D.R." was born May 31, 1924 in Huntington, the son of the late Porter William "P.W." Smith and Lillian Elizabeth Davis Smith. He was a graduate of Huntington High School, attended Virginia Tech, Marshall University and graduated from Florida Southern University. Davis was an Army veteran serving in World War II and also the Army Reserves. He was owner of Smith Motor Sales in Ashland KY and Smith Office Supplies in Huntington, WV. Davis was a longtime member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a member of the following: Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity Alumni, Sons of the Confederate Veterans, The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the BPOE Elks with 64 member years, the Military Order of States and Bars, Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and the Florida Southern University Alumni Association. Davis is survived by his daughter, Emma Smith-Dennis and her husband Gary Dennis and a granddaughter Lillie Dennis all of Plano, TX. Special thanks to Davis' caregivers and Jeanette and Ray Jenkins. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 by the Rev. Joe Hill at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary with visitation prior from 10 a.m. until service time. Entombment will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park's Abbey of Remembrance with full military honors.
