Shelba Glenn Pew
(
March 10, 1914 - November 7, 2013)

Shelba Glenn Pew, 99, of Huntington, was reunited with her cherished family and loving Lord on the morning of November 7, 2013 at her home in the Woodlands Community. Shelba was born March 10, 1914 in Huntington, the only child of William Cunningham Pew and Mary Love Pew. She spent her childhood in Huntington WV, walking through the Marshall College campus on her way to elementary school where she would later graduate in 1936 from the Teacher's Program and then went on to receive a Master's Degree from Duke University. Shelba was passionate about education and helping others reach their dreams of receiving an education by the many scholarships and research she funded. As a philanthropist she was a member of the Old Main Society, Founders Circle and received the Marshall University Alumni Association Distinguished service award in 2010. During WW II she served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy W.A.V.E.S. (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) Ms. Pew returned to West Virginia and taught Science in the public school system until her retirement so she could care for her ailing mother. She is survived by her cousins, Margie Leap, her son, David Leap; Dr. Charles Clark and Don Hinerman. And also left to remember her are very dear friends, Kristi Arrowood and Ruth Johnson. It is suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to her church home, Bethesda United Methodist Church, 118 Bethesda Drive, Ona, WV 25545 or to the H. Leslie Leap Scholarship, c/o Community of Grace UMC, 225 28th. St., Huntington, WV 25702. Klingel Carpenter Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
