John William Sewell
(August 23, 1931 - January 1, 2016)



John William Sewell, 84, of Huntington, Passed away at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House surrounded by family and friends. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm, Tuesday, January 5th at Philadelphia United Baptist Church in Lavalette. Funeral service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, January 6th at Philadelphia United Baptist Church in Lavalette, by Elder Ray Williamson and Elder Glen Kiah Williamson. Entombment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville. John was born August 23, 1931 in Chattaroy, WV, the son of the late Emmett and Blanche West Sewell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, David M. Sewell and one sister, Joyce Starr. He is survived by two daughters, Suzen (Stan) Gunter of Worthington, KY and Jada (Norman) Scarberry of Huntington; two sons, Emmett Sewell of Huntington, Jay (Elizabeth) Sewell of Huntington; two stepsons, Bret Knapp of Huntington and Wade Knapp of Jacksonville, FL; three sisters, Carol Hall of Franklin IN, Nell Monroe of Franklin, IN and Priscilla Muslin of Ypsilanti, MI; a brother, Emmett W. Sewell of Ypsilanti, MI; four granddaughters, Olivia Keesee, Maddie Vargo, Taylor and Alexandria Knapp; and four grandsons, Teddy Keesee, Jacob Sewell, Jonathan and Brandon Knapp. John worked at The Yellow Cab Co. for over 50 years. He will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.
