Obituary

Sharon Weed
(July 8, 1947 - March 9, 2020)

Sharon Kalmon Weed, 72, of LeSage, WVA died Monday, March 9, 2020 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was born in Cleveland, OH on July 8th, 1947, to the late Ben and Muriel Kalmon. She is survived by her beloved husband, Hy Daniel Weed; a daughter, Sarah Weed (David Hagley); a son Adam Weed (Stacy); 3 grandchildren, Josie, Austin, and Ryleigh; and a sister, Judy Williamson (David). Sharon graduated from Marshall University as a social worker. She never knew a stranger and enjoyed talking with everyone. She kept her home and pantry open to the neighborhood children. They would often go to Sharon for advice on issues that they could not share with their parents. She had the ability to make a bad situation positive. Her children were the highlight of her life and she delighted in their accomplishments. She encouraged them to do what made them happy because love, family, and friends were what made life worth living. She volunteered for several years with the Huntington chapter of Faith in Action, a group that steps in when agencies and families cannot meet the needs that allow the elderly, ill, and people with disabilities to live independently. In 1997, WSAZ TV awarded Sharon the distinction of Hometown Hero in recognition of her tireless efforts on behalf of those in need. The words of her son, Adam, sum up the feelings of those who knew and loved her: “Her smile was constant and genuine, her laughter was loud and infectious. Her personality was one that made her a pleasure to be around and her humor had no end.” She will be missed every day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetic Association. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, March 13, 2020 at B’nai Sholom Congregation by Rabbi David Wucher. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
