Obituary

Eloise Ferrell Malcolm Perry, 95 of Buffalo (Wayne) West Virginia died Saturday, November 14, 2015 at home. Eloise was born May 8, 1920 in Huntington, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents Omar and Bertha (Baumgardner) Ferrell, two husbands J. Richard Malcolm and Virgil L. Perry. She is survived by one daughter Janne Malcolm Rice and her husband Bob. She is also survived by her grandchildren Robert Rice (wife, Jennifer) of Huntington, Ryan Rice (wife, Vallery) and Holly Litteral (husband Nate) both of Kenova. In addition, she is survived by five great-grandchildren David and Alex Rice of Kenova, Michaela Rice of Huntington and Savannah and Jordan Rice of Garner, NC. She also has two more great-grandchildren expected within the month. Additional survivors include one sister Helen Ferrell Hitchings and one brother Stephen Ferrell. In addition, Eloise leaves many loving family members around Huntington area as well as her church family from Central United Methodist Church where she was a long-time faithful member of the church, the choir, United Methodist Women, Bishop Bible Class and long-time Sunday School Teacher. Eloise graduated in 1938 from Huntington High School. She graduated from Marshall College with a degree in business in 1942. She spent her working days as an Adult Basic Education teacher and learning center coordinator. For 30 years, she spent her leisure time directing the choir of Central United Methodist Church. Upon retirement from that position, she spent the last 22 years on the front row singing soprano. Two of her proudest accomplishments were winning the Tri-State Piano competition two times as a youth. She was in competition with hundreds of others and won first place. For those accomplishments, she was awarded a silver loving cup and a plaque that she so treasured. In her retirement, she enjoyed camping, visiting the beach, spending time with her family and singing in the church choir. As a tribute to Eloise’s love for singing and the choir of Central United Methodist Church, the family is requesting any members who sang in the choir under her direction or sang in the choir with her in the last years to participate in a simple anthem during her memorial service. Anyone who would like to participate is requested to come 15 minutes before the service to practice. Eloise’s last year was spent receiving outstanding care from caregivers June Bowen, Shirlene Hardwick and Regenia Stamper. The family also wishes to extend thanks and appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Huntington for their warm care. Funeral services will be conducted by the Reverend W. Ford Price at Central United Methodist Church 1043 Jefferson Avenue Huntington, WV at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 21, 2015. Friends may call from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm Saturday November 21, 2015 at the church. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Reger Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements. Contributions can be made in memory of Eloise to the Central United Methodist Church Chancel Choir.
