Hazel McKinney Ferguson Flynn, 92, of Huntington, passed away Thursday May 5, 2016 at Woodlands Retirement Community, Huntington. She was the daughter of the late Col. And Mrs. (Hazel McKinney Ferguson) Lawrence J. Ferguson of Huntington. Her son Richard F. Flynn of Huntington survives as do grandsons, Richard F. Flynn of Kenova, WV and James F. Flynn of Cumberland, MD.; great grandchildren, Gavin and Reese; brother and sister in law Joseph A. and Ann Ferguson of Surprise, AZ. and many wonderful and caring nieces and nephews including nephew John (Monica) Porter who were very supportive to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Maurice Joseph Flynn; two sons Maurice Joseph Flynn, Jr. and James George Flynn; sister Jane Ferguson Porter and brother James C. Ferguson. Hazel was a member of a military family and lived in many places and attended many schools. It is interesting to note that she learned to walk and talk in the Philippines. Hazel graduated from high school in Clinton, SC and from Marshall University in 1944. She obtained a Master’s Degree in Education in 1945. She taught at Gallaher School in Cabell County an at Ruffner School in Lexington, VA. She and Maurice enjoyed traveling. Hazel also enjoyed her years as a docent at the HMA. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed playing bridge. A Funeral Liturgy will be conducted at 10 am Tuesday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Dean Borgmeyer and Monsignor Lawrence Luciana as con-celebrants. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery, Huntington. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 pm Monday at the Reger Funeral Home and from 9:30 am until service time on Tuesday at the church.
