Obituary

Betty Jean Helton
(April 30, 1930 - January 15, 2021)


Betty Jean Helton, 90, of Huntington, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. A private graveside service will be held for the family at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Burial will follow. Betty was born on April 30, 1930 in Van Lear, KY to the late Francis and Zora Daniels Phelps. In 1948 she attended St. Mary's School of Nursing. After graduating she worked for St. Mary's Medical Center for 36 years as a Certified OR Technician. She attended Madison Avenue Christian Church and Grace Gospel Church. She was an avid reader and cook and loved spending time with her friends. Betty and her husband Doug both loved Marshall University Football. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Douglas Helton; one brother, Jim Phelps; and one sister, Fran Phelps Franklin. She is survived by her only daughter, Tanya Bieterman and son-in-law, Dave Bieterman, who was like a son to her; Her beloved only grandchild, David (Erin) Bieterman; two sweet great grandsons, Mason and Reid Bieterman; several nieces and nephews; a loving cherished "niece" friend, Marsha; and the dearest, most helpful neighbors.
