She was born March 6, 1923, a daughter of the late Russell and Florence Vance Diehl. Dorothy was a 1941 graduate of Huntington High School and earned her teaching degree from Marshall University in 1965. She was a retired elementary school teacher with 20 years of service in the Cabell County Public School System. Dorothy was an avid traveler and went on many tours with fellow teacher and close friend, Sara Blethen. She was a true animal lover with a special fondness for cats. She is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas W. Brown Jr.; and one daughter, Becky Johnson; and a brother, Robert Diehl. She is survived by two sons, Brooks Brown and Randy Brown, both of Huntington; two grandchildren, Jessica Holbrook of Charleston, W.Va., and Augusta Brown of Dumont, N.J.; three great-grandchildren, Gracie Holbrook, Olivia Holbrook and Noah Miranda; and a sister-in-law, Gwen Diehl of Easton, Pa. Special thanks and appreciation are given to her caregiver, Lori Burdette of Sara Care, and the staff at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for the superb care given to her in the twilight of her life. Also thanks for the Meals On Wheels program for providing her nutritional meals daily. A memorial service will be held at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville at 1 p.m. May 28, 2014, with graveside interment at Spring Hill Cemetery immediately following the memorial service.
