Obituary

Jean Meredith Elkins Dunkle, 83, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Heritage Center Nursing Home. She was born on March 30, 1926 in Huntington, WV a daughter to the late Seibert S. and Retha Myers Elkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon S. Dunkle. Mrs. Dunkle is survived by her children, Joyce Bartlett of Huntington, David and Robin Dunkle of Ceredo, and Diane and Glenn Wallace of Barboursville; her grandchildren, Becki Houck of Huntington, Andrea (Steve) Whittington of Buffalo, WV, Brad, Craig and Aaron Dunkle of Ceredo, Meredith, Michelle and Allen Wallace of Barboursville; her great-grandchildren Ryan and Rachael Houck of Huntington, Braylon and Miley Whittington of Buffalo, WV; one brother, Carl (Marge) Elkins of Winnsboro, TX; one sister, Lois (Bob) Silling of Barboursville; and a very special sister-in-law, Frances Elkins of Ceredo. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a dear and special son-in-law, Eddie Bartlett; a brother, Ernest Elkins; and a sister, Lyndal Orser. Jean was a longtime secretary at J&L Equipment Company in Huntington; a member of the former Ninth Avenue Methodist Church and the Westmoreland Methodist Church. She enjoyed painting and researching her family tree. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Beard Mortuary with Pastor Steve Grimes officiating. Burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
