Dorothy May (Center) Rice

Dorothy Center Rice, 86, of Huntington, WV, went home to be with the Lord on July 24, 2010. She was born January 17, 1924, the daughter of the late William Kelly Center and Della Phillips Center. She retired from Doctors Memorial Hospital in Huntington, where she worked as a registered nurse. In her retirement, she enjoyed fishing, camping, and loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Rice, and two sons, William “Eddy” Rice and Paul “Chipper” Rice. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Janette and Kim Adkins; a loving daughter-in-law, Vicky Rice; one sister-in-law, Ruth Seese, of Easton, Maryland; Two Nieces, Kathy (Dirk) Anderson, of Seattle, Washington, and Barbara Seese, of Oxford, Maryland; One Great Nephew, Dylan Seese, of Oxford, Maryland; Five grandchildren, Mary Kae (Don) Selan, of Pickerington, Ohio; Michele (Ari) Katanick, of Bay Village, Ohio; Stacy (Jerry) Sheffield, of Hilliard, Ohio; Ryan (Shelley) Adkins, of Huntington; and Chad Adkins, of Huntington; Eight great-grandchildren, Nathan Baumgard, Zachary Baumgard, Grant Katanick, Tanner Sheffield, Shane Selan, Macy Selan, Jesse Adkins, and Wyatt Adkins; and a host of cousins and friends, including two very special friends Harry and Charlene Wolford. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Heartland of Riverview Nursing Home for their friendship and loving care of Dorothy in the last years of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington, or Hospice of Heartland, South Point, Ohio. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8pm at Beard Mortuary. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday at 11am at Beard Mortuary, with burial immediately following in Sandy Hook Memorial Gardens, Sandy Hook, Kentucky.
