Obituary
Betty Louise Potter Bowen,
72, of Huntington, went to walk in Heaven’s Garden on Saturday, March 17,
2012. She was born January 30, 1940 a daughter of the late Benjamin Howard
Potter and Genevieve Mae Adams Potter. In addition to her parents, she was
also preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Adkins
Adams. She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Billy Bowen; her
children and their spouses D. Dianne Bowen-Coleman (Paul), Billie Jeanne
Bowen Brooks (Darrell), William Gregory Bowen; her grandchildren and spouses
Patrick Ryan Blatt (Holly), James Zachary Blatt, Catherine Hali’a Bowen
Coleman, Elizabeth Nohea Bowen Coleman; her great-grandson, Tristan Patrick
Russell Blatt; her siblings and spouses, Virginia Helena Potter Signorini
(Francis), Benjamin (Buddy) Howard Potter, II and Raymond Carl Potter
Thacker (Rita); her Aunt Jean Adams Edelkamp and Uncle William Edelkamp. She
will be greatly missed by many other family and friends.
She loved to garden and was happiest in an old pair of jeans and tee shirt,
on her hands and knees in the back yard. She enjoyed photography and working
on photo albums and scrapbooks. She enjoyed studying the history of
Huntington and the beautiful old homes of the past. Since retiring, she had
been working on her family history. She was a member of Lewis Memorial
Baptist Church where her heart was warmed by the fellowship and the
strengthening of her faith. Most important to her were her family and her
faith.
She retired from Cornerstone Hospital of Huntington in October 2006 where
she was administrative assistant/human resources director. She had
previously retired from St. Mary’s Medical Center where she was office
coordinator for the Home Health Department. Prior to that, she was assistant
librarian at the St. Mary’s Medical Center School of Nursing.
Visitation will be held from 6:00pm – 8:00pm Thursday, March 22, 2012 at
Beard Mortuary. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 1:00pm
Friday, March 23, 2012 at Lewis Memorial Baptist Church, led by Pastors, Dr.
David Lemming and Dr. Tim Yates. A Garden Celebration will follow at
Woodmere Abbey of Remembrance.
Floral gifts are welcome or memorial donations can be made to the Emogene
Dolin Jones Hospice House in honor of Betty Louise Bowen.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the
Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for their compassionate care. Also, thank
you to all who have sent flowers, cards and food, and to those who have
visited and lifted us up in prayer.
