Margaret Alma Hofstetter
(July 9, 1913 - September 28, 2014)



Margaret Ratliff Hofstetter passed away at the Woodlands Retirement Community, September 28, 2014. Margaret was born in Weston, WV, July 9, 1913, the daughter of the late Walter and Wealthy Jane Tate. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Clayton Ratliff, and husbands Ralph Doolittle and Arthur Hofstetter. She was a graduate of Fairmont Normal School, Glenville State College and earned a Doctor of Education Degree from West Virginia University. She taught elementary school in Gilmer County and later served on the faculty at West Liberty State College and Fairmont State College. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, professional education fraternity, DAR, Fairmont Chapter and Gamma Chi Chi, a social sorority of Fairmont University. Margaret enjoyed playing golf, was an avid bridge player and she traveled the world after her retirement. She was preceded in death by sisters, Grace Tate and Genevieve Davis. Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Jane Ratliff Dickerson, Ann Ratliff Barker (Lawrence) and Ellen Doolittle Horner (Ronald) and Susan Hofstetter Vaughn (Warner). She was Nana to six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Margaret was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, 1015 Fifth Avenue, Huntington, WV. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, with the Reverend Skip Seibel officiating. Interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Weston, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations he made to the Cabell-Wayne Association for the Blind, 38 Washington Ave., Huntington, WV 25701.
