Hazel Owens
(September 10, 1918 - September 22, 2014)

Hazel Owens, 96, of Huntington, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the Heritage Center Genesis Elder Care. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Beard Mortuary with Rev. Steven Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends after 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. She was born September 10, 1918 in Wayne County, WV to the late Milton and Bertie Preston Hall. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of fifty eight years, Wetzel G. Owens, and sisters, Irene Gibson, Pauline Adkins and Erma Womeldorf. Hazel was a homemaker. She was a member of the former Southside now Community of Grace United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Rev. Keith) Leap of Huntington; three sisters, Lucille Berry of Lavalette; Helen Hall and Charlotte Kelly both of Charleston, WV; brother, Clarence “Tom” (Joyce) Hall of Huntington; two grandsons, K. Edwin Leap, MD and wife Jan of Tamassee, SC and Stephen Leap and fiancé, Stephanie Swander of Greenville, SC and grandchildren, Samuel, Seth, Elijah, Elysa and Jacqueline Leap of South Carolina. Special thanks and appreciation is extended to the 3rd Floor Staff at Heritage Center for the wonderful care they provided Hazel during her time as a resident at the center.
