Obituary

Sunnie Lynn Holderby, 66, of Huntington, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Cabell Huntington Hospital with her husband by her side. Born on October 21, 1948 in Huntington, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Evelyn Brown Guthrie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her very special friend, Pat Taylor. She is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, William “Randy” Holderby; close family friend who introduced Sunnie and Randy, Jennifer Edwards, of Jacksonville, FL; special friends, Chuck Taylor of Charlotte, NC and Chuck and Lucille Heffner of Huntington. The family wishes to thank Jennifer Johnson of the Chaplain Service at Cabell Huntington Hospital; Dr. Gerald Oakley and his staff, Penny and Melissa, also of Cabell Huntington Hospital, for their wonderful care and treatment over the years, as well as all the nurses and staff. A heartfelt thank you also goes to Karen and Shay of the Eastwood Learning Center and their staff for all the wonderful memories and continued support throughout the years, to the Oncology Department of the Edwards Cancer Center and to her church family who called, visited, sent cards and always kept Sunnie and Randy in their prayers. Sunnie graduated from Huntington East High School in 1966 and then went on to attend the Collins Career Center. She was a longtime member of the First Church of the Nazarene and was a devoted teacher for the Eastwood Learning Center. Her name was a true reflection of her personality. She was a sunny and loving woman who treasured helping children. Her career as a teacher at the Eastwood Learning Center was her life, and she treated the children as if they were her own. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Bob Weaver and Dallas Moore, co-officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 P.M. at the mortuary. Donations may be made in Sunnie’s honor to the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center.
