Obituary

Dorothy was born in Huntington, West Virginia, on September 3rd, 1915 and lived all one hundred years of her life in Huntington. She and her husband, Norman, raised four children, went to all of their events throughout school, but never missed a party! She was a charter member of Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church – likely the last surviving charter member, and participated in choir and teaching Sunday school. Her familiar “Hello, Hello” echoed in the halls at the Woodlands where they were with the first group to move in to the magnificent facility. She religiously visited friends and just about everyone else in the Heath Care Unit until she moved there herself, and then finally, to the Memory Unit. Her completely outgoing and contagious spirit livened up many a party where she would say “Do I know you?” to start the conversation. She spent every summer for 70 years at Lake Nuangola in Northeast Pennsylvania, where six generations of family and friends enjoyed the Lake atmosphere and each other’s company. Dorothy is survived by her children, Robert (Johnna) Coats of Lexington, KY, Dorothy Coats (Richard) Brown of Hendersonville, NC, Norman L. “Roy” (Donna) Coats II of Jackson, TN and Russell (Donna) Coats of Houston, TX; her sister, Jean Zeller of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Kristin (George) Appleton of Richmond, VA, Kevin (Kenzie) Coats of Lexington, KY, R. Douglas (Debra) Brown Jr. of Naples, FL, Amy Brown Peterson of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Dorothy Brown (Ken) Forberg of North Aurora, IL, Craig (Roxanne) Coats of Jackson, TN, Michael (Darlene) Coats of St. Louis, MO, Tracee Coats Crews of Jackson, TN, Scott (Mandy) Coats of Henderson TN, Maria Coats (Peter) Stein of Shawneetown, IL, Brad (Deanna) Coats of Houston, TX and Brian Coats of Austin, TX; great-grandchildren, Peter, Annie, Jessie, Kingston, Trey, Trevor, Grant, Sarah, Maggie, Emily, Tommy, Cameron, Patrick, Sean, Aaron, Tyler, Caden, Alec, Soren, Gregory, Jack and Augustus. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, and her siblings, Cecil, Thelma, Edith, Clarence, Roy and Ruth. A Memorial Service will be held for Dorothy at the Woodlands Retirement Center on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. Beard Mortuary in Huntington is assisting the family with arrangements.
